The storyline revolves around Task Force 141’s hunt for Russian ultranationalist and terrorist Vladimir Makarov, who poses a threat to trigger World War III. Multiplayer includes all 16 maps in Modern Warfare 2, provides map voting and increases player health. The “red dot” minimap returns, allowing players to spot enemies firing unsuppressed weapons. New features include the ability to cancel sliding animations and classic modes like “Confirmed Kill” and “Hardpoint.” Along with 32v32’s Ground War mode and the returning War mode, there’s a new mode called Cut Throat, featuring three teams of three.

The goal is to complete objectives, collect loot, and sneak out within a specific time. The story unfolds in various locations, culminating in Makarov’s plan to destroy the Gora Dam in Verdansk. The story involves a range of characters including John Price, Thorpe and Farah, as well as unexpected alliances and betrayals.
