SteamWorld Build How to use the Workshop and Extractor

Using the Workshop in SteamWorld Build

When it comes to SteamWorld Build, setting up a workshop is a bit different than the usual buildings you build on the ground. These workshops focus specifically on underground mining areas. First, go to the “Facilities” tab in the mine overview.

Think of your studio not as a building, but as a collection of tiles. Each workshop tile costs 300x money, 1x tool, and 1x plank. You need at least nine tiles to activate the extractor’s basic functionality. Adding more workshop tiles means more extractor slots, allowing you to improve your mining operations. If things don’t work out and you want to recycle the material, you can use a destruction tool. However, please note: Selecting the “Hard” setting means that materials will not be refunded.

Using Extractors in SteamWorld Build

There are many types of extractors in SteamWorld Build, but there is a common concept. First, you need to discover resource nodes in the mine. Then, make sure it’s connected (probably via a bridge) and make sure you have enough Workshop tiles for extra extractor slots. Each type of extractor has its own construction requirements, for example a Dirty Water Extractor requires 6,000x money, 6x tools, and 8x metal plates.

Once these extractors are up and running, they automatically send resources back to the overworld area, where they are used to feed the needs of the townsfolk. Engineers may need spare parts from iron and scrap, while both the Aristo robot and the Engineer need water. So, understanding how to set up and manage your Workshop and Extractors will help you ensure your mining efforts thrive in SteamWorld Build!

SteamWorld Build Game

In SteamWorld Build, it’s like playing two games in one! First, you are responsible for creating and managing a town on a strange alien planet. You’ll build roads, install important facilities like water and electricity, and build homes for the people who live there. It is important to satisfy everyone by meeting their needs. As you progress, you’ll unlock new things and make your town better by acquiring cooler technology and improving your workers. The town’s success is measured by achieving certain goals based on the number of people living there.

But wait, there’s more! Once you’ve gathered enough materials to repair your mine, the second part of the game begins. You need to build a suitable working mine and hire miners to explore an old abandoned mine. Their mission? Find some ancient technology that can help you leave this planet! As they do so, they collect valuable ores and resources that help your town develop further. Oh, and there are monsters in that old mine, so your miners better have their weapons ready. As your town gets bigger, more engineers will arrive, allowing you to hire more miners and make your mining operation better!

SteamWorld Build Development

SteamWorld Build is underway on The Station’s 40-person team, led by Thunderful Development. The big boss who oversees everything is franchise director Brjánn Sigurgeirsson. The game is the first in the SteamWorld series not to be produced by an original Swedish team. Prior to this project, The Station worked on the art and assets for the LittleBigPlanet game. They started working on the game back in early 2020. Developers say it’s like Ubisoft’s Anno series and Bullfrog Productions’ Dungeon Keeper. But they’re making sure the two parts of the game – building and exploring dungeons – work together smoothly. The game’s story takes place concurrently with SteamWorld Dig 2, bringing back old friends while introducing new characters.

Thunderful Development has big plans for the SteamWorld series. They mentioned four games in development, one of which is this city-building game codenamed Coffee. The official announcement of SteamWorld Build was made in January 2023 during Thunderful’s “SteamWorld Telegraph” show. They even released a free demo the same day! SteamWorld Build will be released on December 1, 2023, and will be available on Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, which is very exciting.
