The Walking Dead

In 1995, the United States filmed a movie called “Death Man Walking.” This is a crime drama starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn. The film’s producer, Tim Robbins, also helped write the script, based on a true story from the 1993 book of the same name.

In the movie, Susan Sarandon plays Sister Helen Prejean. She became close to Sean Penn’s Matthew Poncelet, who resembled two real-life convicted murderers, Elmore Patrick Sonnier and Robert E. Lee ·Willy’s combination. While Matthew was in prison in Louisiana, awaiting execution, Sister Helen visited him after exchanging letters with him to offer him spiritual guidance.

The film did well both with critics and at the box office. It made $83 million despite having a budget of only $11 million. People praised Penn and Sarandon’s performances and Tim Robbins’ directorial skills. Susan Sarandon even won an Academy Award for her role, and Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, and Bruce Springsteen were also nominated for their performances in the film. Springsteen’s song “Dead Man Walkin'” was also nominated.

dead man walking plot

Mathieu Poncelet is in big trouble. He has been in prison for six years, awaiting execution for a serious crime: his and his friend Carl’s involvement in the murder and assault of a young couple. But Matthew said he didn’t and asked Sister Helen Prejean for help. He wrote to her all the time and she was a nun.

Sister Helen decided to visit Matthew even though he was not a very nice person. He’s rude, mean, and racist. He didn’t even apologize for what he did. Sister Helen hired a lawyer to help Matthew for free as they tried to change his death sentence to life in prison. She spent a lot of time with him and got to know his mother and the victim’s family. But the victims’ families didn’t like that. They wanted Matthew to pay for what he had done in his life.

Sister Helen requested that Matthew’s sentence be changed, but was refused. Matthew asked her to be with him when he was executed, and she agreed. Before he is taken away, he finally admits to Sister Helen that he did kill the boy and hurt the girl, but that his friend Carl also did bad things. He asked the boy’s father for forgiveness and hoped the girl’s parents would find peace.

Matthew was put to death and given a proper burial. The boy’s father went to the funeral, although he was still angry. But eventually, he began praying with Sister Helen.
