Suspicious Toys Quest in Baldur’s Gate 3

In the third act of Baldur’s Gate 3, the story takes place in the quaint town of Livington, just outside the borders of the bustling main city. In Livington, players will stumble upon various missions, one of which is titled “Uncover the mystery behind the suspicious toy.” This particular mission uncovers a sinister plot involving the distribution of explosive-laden teddy bears to refugee children.

To begin this mission, players need to explore one of two restricted areas within Livington. In order to successfully complete this unique quest, players will need to ultimately trace its origins to a specific location in the Lower Town of Baldur’s Gate. Read on to learn the step-by-step process for completing this fun quest in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to complete the Investigate Suspicious Toys mission in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Investigate Alfur’s basement

In the third act of Baldur’s Gate 3, players meet a man named Arfur Gregorio who becomes embroiled in a dispute with the refugee family occupying his house. The resolution of this conflict will not have a significant impact on the “Suspicious Toy” mission; however, it determines where players will find Alfur in the future.

After resolving the dispute, players should enter Arfur’s house and head to the room directly opposite the front door. In this room, there is a hidden hatch, partially obscured by the table on the right. A perception check can highlight a hatch, but players can also find it without a successful roll.

This hatch leads to Alfur’s basement, a dangerous area filled with tripwire traps that can trigger explosive fireworks. On the other side of the basement, players can find a trapped heavy chest. Opening the chest will reward the player with a pile of gold and a ransom note. Reading this letter will initiate or advance the “Suspicious Toy” quest.

Search the commandeered barn

Alternatively, players can begin the “Suspicious Toys” mission by visiting the Requisitioned Barn located in the Refugee Camp portion of the map. Firefist guards have taken control of the barn, and entering without their consent could spell trouble. However, players can use stealth, spells, and potions to avoid detection.

In the north corner of the barn, players will find a crate filled with teddy bears. Note that this chest may only become visible when the party is close to it. An Investigation check can reveal that the crate is trapped, and the party can then use a gimmick to disarm it. If the party fails to notice the trap, interacting with the crate will cause it to explode.

Regardless of whether the party disarms or triggers a crate, a Fire Fists member named Manip Nestor will approach and inquire about the situation. To avoid confrontation or arrest, the speaker must succeed on a Persuasion DC 15 or Deception DC 20 check to convince Nestor that they are not responsible for the bear. This marks the Fire Fist’s only involvement in this mission.

Against Alfur

To advance the “Suspicious Toy” mission, players must complete the previous two steps. Depending on how they treat refugees, Alf is either in his home or in Charres’ caressing performance room.

To obtain more information from Arfur, players must pass an Intimidate DC 10 check. If successful, Alver will reveal details of the shipment he received from the Ferrol Fireworks Factory in Lower Baldur’s Gate. He will also provide the party with a pass to Gortash’s Coronation, which allows access to the Dragon Rock Fortress Drawbridge.

Players can choose to accept Alfur’s bribe, free him, or even kill him. Regardless, these operations will not advance the mission, but players can track the operation using the name “Felogyr” in the ransom note. Map markers earned by progressing through missions are helpful but not mandatory.

Destroy Fireworks in Ferrol

The Fireworks of Floyre is located southwest of the Basilisk Gate, directly south of the Witches’ Clutter, and up the stairs from the Heapside Strand waypoint. Inside, players will witness Avery Sonshal teach a child about fireworks safety and discover that he has an absolutist tadpole inside him.

If the player has terrorized Alfur before, there will be a code to enter the second floor and encounter a merchant selling grenades and poison. However, staff and guards on that floor will block access to the third floor. The third floor is home to a group of Barnets who use the fireworks shop as a cover to manufacture explosives hidden in children’s toys.

Unless the players side with Gortash and the Church of Baine, the only way to solve this mission is to destroy the operation. This task is easier than it looks, as the second and third floors are filled with explosive barrels and fireworks. Sending a team member to the third floor and igniting explosive barrels with Fire Arrows or Flame Bolts can trigger a chain reaction that eliminates most enemies on that floor.

Players should be careful with Avery, who uses fire spells such as Rockets, Burning Hands, and Fireball. If the player isn’t using explosive barrels against enemies, Avery will use them against the team.

The mission “Investigating Suspicious Toys” will end once all members of the staff of the Ferrol Fireworks have been defeated. However, players should be careful when exploring and looting the top floor of the store, as it is still off-limits and Fire Fist units may intervene if nearby.
