Dragon Ball Z: Burst Battle combines various game elements from different genres, including board games, trading card games, bubble poppers, and puzzles. The main gameplay revolves around board game-like levels, which contain locations dedicated to items, power-ups, traps, and combat.

During combat, players engage in a puzzle system reminiscent of match-3 games, where they match different colored orbs to perform attacks and utilize special abilities. By successfully matching spheres, players can unlock “Dokkan Mode” for their character, requiring them to click on specific targets in a Z-shaped configuration as the balloon passes by. This activates a super attack that is much more powerful than a regular super attack, adding an exciting dynamic to the gameplay experience.
